Kirsty studied Textile Design at the University of Leeds, graduating in 1995. After graduation, rather than take up a career in commercial textile design, she set up her own studio in Black Dog. Her initial aim was to work in the medium of textile based art. As her work progressed she found that painting itself took over and has done so ever since.
"Living and working in such a beautiful rural situation provides me with endless source material. Many of my paintings are of places often only a few steps away from my studio. My aim is to capture this intense beauty with all its drama and changing light. I also enjoy the challenge of painting the working life of this rural community."
