This painting depicts reed combing in Mid Devon in 2003. The reed-combing machine was made by Marshall's in 1927 and originally would have been powered by steam. Marshall's have a good name for reliability and in 1903 won a gold medal for this particular design. Today traditional varieties of wheat are still grown such as Square Master or Square head, Red Standard, Victor and Little Josh. |
