Many things interest and inspire me to paint! I am always intrigued and captivated by colour and light. Light changes everything and anything into something wonderful!
I live in an amazing part of the world, Mid Devon has so much to wonder at, its landscape is of undulating hills and hidden valleys. This area has a network of narrow lanes and beautiful hedges. It seems funny that so many of these lanes would seldom be explored or entered unless you know someone who lives there. My home and studio are located quite high up in the hills. The skies are amazing here and the views towards Dartmoor create a presence that is incredibly captivating. Painting the landscape of this area, in all its changing moods and light is in a way addictive.
The Light inspires me especially the light on a sunny day just before the sun sets. This light is like an ephemeral, ungraspable wonder that I strive to capture in my paintings. This light can transform even the ugliest scene into something beautiful and abstract. It could be a muddy field with deep craven rain filled ruts made by a tractor's tyres and yet in the reflections, colours, muted tones even this is inspirational it can look amazing!
